Queens barred from all African Nations

Malawi Queens have been stopped from participating in the All-Nations tournament, which throws-off on Sunday in South Africa.

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) president Rose Chinunda said All African Netball made a last minute decision to exclude the Queens from taking part in the qualifying tournament for 2011 Singapore World Championship.

“We have just been told that our participation is no longer necessary because we already qualified for World championship,” she said.

ANNA announces team for African qualifiers

The All Namibia Netball Association (ANNA) announced a team of 12 players who will represent the country at the African Qualifiers due to be held in Pretoria, South Africa from 5-9 September.

The President of ANNA, Lydia Kandetu, said that Namibia would join seven other countries at the qualifiers.

“Namibia will participate with seven other countries for only two spots in the World Netball Championships,” Kandetu said.

The countries that will finish first and second will join Malawi to represent Africa at the World Netball Championships in Singapore from 3-19 July next year. Malawi qualified because they are currently fifth in the world rankings and the top ranked five nations including the host get automatic qualifications.

The Silver Ferns have set the stage for the Constellation Cup decider on Sunday in Auckalnd after leveling the Series 1-all with a 59-40 drubbing of the Diamonds in Wellington tonight.

Sunshine Girls target England

JAMAICA's senior netball team will face their England counterparts in the first of two netball Test matches in the 2010 NCB Sunshine Series at the National Indoor Sports Centre (NISC) this evening, beginning at 6:30.

The matches will be used by both squads as a marker for October's Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.

Netball gets $1-m Pepsi boost

The Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) on Thursday were handed a symbolic sponsorship cheque of J$1m from Pepsi-Cola Jamaica, through its brand Gatorade, to aid their cause as they continue to grapple with the harsh economic times.

Aside from the cash donation, Pepsi-Cola has also pledged an undisclosed quantity of Gatorade and Aqua Essential Purified Water products to hydrate the players during training camps and tournaments and has assisted with the construction of a study room at the association's home located in Barbican.

McMahon to lead netballers in her fourth Commonwealth Games

Following an intense selection process, Australian captain Sharelle McMahon will lead a team of 12 netballers announced today to travel to Delhi for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in October.

McMahon will be competing in her fourth Commonwealth Games, while Kim Green will follow in the footsteps of her mother Denise Langford who competed for Australia as a swimmer 40 years ago.

The team includes five members who competed at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne four years ago when the Australians fell agonisingly short of gold, beaten in the final game against New Zealand by five goals.

Diamonds defeat NZ in first netball Test

A fast finishing Australia downed New Zealand by five goals in the first netball Test in Adelaide on Sunday.

The Diamonds overcame a one-goal deficit at the last change to win 48-43 in game one of the three Test series.

Netball Players out to impress selectors

Players from the top six clubs taking part in the Crest Chicken National Netball Championships are also out to impress national selectors to make it to the final squad for the World Netball Championships.

Organiser and chief technical officer, Alini Sovu said assistant national netball coach Unaisi Rokoura has been at the championships since it started.
