Netballers need sh71m for qualifiers
UGANDA’s participation in the netball World Cup qualifiers will become a reality if sh71m is secured for the campaign. The qualifiers, set for Johannesburg in September, will pit Uganda against several other countries.
Uganda’s team booked a place in the event after beating South Africa 50-48 at the Inter-Nations Cup held in Dar es Salaam last year.
But the Kampala team’s involvement in the Johannesburg show will depend on the availability of the sh71m.
An appeal for help was made yesterday by the Uganda Netball Federation secretary Annet Kisomoso.
“I am appealing to the government and other well-wishers to rescue the team because it would not look good to miss the event,” Kisomoso said.
Uganda last appeared at the World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago in 1978.
A team of 17 players under coach Margreat Bisereko is training in Kampala for the Johannesburg show.
